About the Hagerman Snake River Rafting Trip

The Hagerman stretch of the Snake River is one of the few warm-water whitewater rafting trips in Idaho. Located just 1 hour 20 minutes from Boise and about 1.5 hours from Sun Valley, this section runs at a steady 5,000+ CFS all season, creating a wide river with long, rolling wave trains and calm recovery sections between rapids.

This 7-mile trip blends splashy whitewater with scenic canyon floating, making it ideal for families, first-time rafters, and groups where not everyone wants the same level of intensity.

Your guide can take you straight through the biggest waves for a high-energy ride, or run smoother lines along the edges for a more relaxed experience.

Same river. Completely different feel depending on how you run it.

Between rapids, the river opens into canyon walls and wetlands filled with wildlife. Bald eagles, osprey, herons, pelicans, and seasonal waterfowl are common sightings.

If you’re looking for real whitewater without freezing water or overwhelming intensity, this is one of the best options in southern Idaho.

Featured Rapids on the Hagerman Snake River

This stretch of the Snake River builds gradually, starting with a mellow warm-up before rolling into bigger wave trains and splashier hits downstream.

Some of the featured rapids on this trip include:

  • Warm Up – A gentle opener to get comfortable and settle into the river

  • Malad River Rapid – A fun, splashy rapid where the action starts to build

  • Captain Crunch – Multiple exciting routes with several fun hits and waves

  • Prom Date – One of the best wave trains on the trip, with a name you won’t forget

  • Bliss Wave – One of the classic big splash zones on the run

  • Frank Lloyd Wright – Named after the famous Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house visible from the river

  • Swim Rapid – A fun section where many groups cool off and jump in

  • Landslide – A strong finish with wide river energy and fun current. At certain flows, it can become the biggest hit of the trip.

Depending on flow and how your guide runs the river, these rapids can range from splashy and family-friendly to surprisingly sporty.

Need a shorter, easier option?

Some groups with younger kids, first-time rafters, or more timid guests choose to end at the Relish takeout. This shortens the trip slightly and skips the final rapid, Landslide.

Quagga Mussel Update

To address the recent discovery of invasive quagga mussels in the Snake River, we have introduced a new, dedicated fleet of rafts. These rafts, identifiable by their grey color, green ropes, and our logo, will be exclusively used for Snake River trips.

This change ensures that our Twin Falls operations remain distinct from our trips on other rivers across the state. By maintaining separate fleets and following regulations, we are committed to taking proactive measures, including cleaning and drying boats, to prevent the spread of quagga mussels to other waterways.

We had the most amazing, half-day rafting trip with Adventure Idaho. Our guide, Jared, was fun and professional at the same time! The staff is great and our raft was nice. A great experience overall!! Would definitely recommend.

"This was my first time rafting and it was SO cool! Jared (our guide) was so awesome! This is the best company in town… they have the nicest staff and fun boats! Ask to ride the pickle fork!!"

Hagerman vs Payette: Which Is Right for You?

Hagerman (Snake River)

  • Warm water all summer

  • Consistent 5,000+ CFS flow

  • Wide river with long, playful wave trains

  • Fun, splashy rapids all season

  • Adjustable intensity for mixed groups

  • Easy to pair with hot springs, hikes, waterfalls, and scenic stops

Payette River (Main Payette)

  • Colder snowmelt water

  • Narrower, more technical rapids

  • Strong early season, but mellows out later in summer

  • More focused on the rafting itself

Bottom line:

If you want warm water, more flexibility, and more to do before or after your trip, Hagerman is the better fit for families, first-timers, and mixed groups.
