Seasonal & River-Specific Essentials
March – Early June (High-Water & Cold Water Season)
Spring trips on the Salmon and Snake Rivers often feature higher flows and colder water temperatures due to snowmelt. Staying warm and dry is key to comfort and safety.
We recommend:
-
Neoprene layers (wetsuits, neoprene socks, and gloves if needed)
-
Warm layers such as fleece or wool base layers and wool socks
-
Light puffies or down coats for chilly mornings and evenings
-
Rain gear (top and bottom) for wind protection and sudden mountain showers
-
Sun protection, even on cloudy days
Adventure Idaho provides wetsuits and splash jackets on all cold-water and high-water trips.
Late June – August (Summer Flow Season)
When the sun is high and the water warms up, comfort and sun safety become the focus.

Aquatic shoes or sandals with secure straps
-
Wide-brim hat, polarized sunglasses with strap
-
High-SPF sunscreen and lip balm
